Dear Colleagues,
I want to thank all of you that participated in the vote. It was exciting to see the resident body so heavily involved in this process.
A total of 66 % (321) of the 497 residents and fellows voted in the election. This number includes the VA, UNMH, and mail ballots. Of the people that voted, 69% (222) voted for the Union. This surpasses the numbers needed to ratify the union.
According to the Labor Board attorney, this will all be made official at their meeting on February 8th. The Board gave their permission to release these preliminary results.
Again, my thanks to everyone who participated in this process. I encourage residents and fellows from both sides of today's vote to take an active role in shaping and influencing the development of this union. Please remember that the union will only be as good as the people involved in its evolution.
After the results are made official, I will send an email describing the open process for forming our union chapter.
Thank you,
Jose Pablo Sterling, MD
For the UNM/CIR Organizing Committee
