Here's What They Have to Say...

Dr. Christine Chen
“I had a wonderful experience being involved with CIR at Los Angeles County, University of Southern California Medical Center (LAC+USC). I was the president of the house officer committee representing internal medicine residents. CIR was there representing residents at meetings with program directors and hospital administrators to improve the program. CIR representatives are always up to date with information and are always accessible.

“The best experience I had with CIR was the CIR Patient Care Fund.  We had an opportunity to buy medical equipment for residents when our program was not able to.  We bought opthalmoscopes and otoscopes for each medicine floor of an 800-bed hospital and a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine for bedside paracentesis and thoracentesis.

“I would encourage everyone to get involved with CIR and voice your concerns.  It doesn't take too much of your time to make a real difference in the hospital with CIR.”

Dr. Aidejoli Onime
“As a resident in a busy New York City hospital I barely had time to myself, as is the case for residents all over the country. CIR was an excellent advocate for us with the hospital, the residency program and beyond – in areas such as work hours, work conditions and environment, and contracts and salaries. In addition, via CIR we had excellent group insurance and access to legal advice and representation on a variety of issues, including reviewing the contracts of job offers in the final year.”

Dr. Amir Axelrod
“When I was a CIR member at Santa Clara Hospital in California, we were able to improve our call rooms and get a working computer and TV for the resident lounge. We were also able to negotiate a holding area for admitted patients supervised by the Medicine Dept. Patients could move out of the ER until Medicine had beds.  They got better care and weren't stuck in the ER for days.”
